We open the blog with a heavy heart today. Simon's dad - John just passed away a short time ago after a long and courageous fight with mantle cell lymphoma (cancer of the blood). We are forever grateful for your unending prayerful support for John's salvation. Although we pray that John did come to trust the Lord with his life, we now ask for prayer for Simon's mom - Gillian and for her to come and be comforted by the arms of a loving Savior as well as to come to a saving knowledge of Him.
Here is a small tribute to John Graham Palfery...
John was a man who always did things to the best of his ability and never gave into cutting corners. You could take him at his word and trust his word. If he said he would do something, you could always count on it being done. He was a gifted photographer, dedicated public servant and an avid reader who enjoyed so many of life's pleasures.
One of my fondest memories of John was when he took a few photos of me (Felisa) when I was out on a visit to see Simon. He had convinced me that it wouldn't be too much trouble, so I obliged and away we went to a local park near his home in Appleton, WI. By the end of the day, I was standing in a fountain at the park, soaking wet and the photographer was happy as could be snapping away. I remember John asking me if I was serious about getting into the fountain and I said "why not?" He simply looked at me and smiled and said - "well, if you say so"
John liked to do things his way and you could always count on him to be there in a pinch or when you needed help on anything from algebra to calibrating bullets to fixing a boat.
In the last few months of John's life, the Lord had given us the following scripture as encouragement to continue praying and sharing God's love with him - even when it was hard to.
The everlasting God, the Lord, The creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might he gives strength. Even the youth shall grow faint and be weary, but those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. - Isaiah 40: 28-31 NKJV
